Ramapo Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit Enforces Pedestrian Safety

Yesterday the Ramapo Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit carried out an enforcement campaign to educate and increase awareness regarding pedestrian safety. The campaign came in light of recent concerns and incidents involving pedestrians and bicylicsts around Rockland.
Officers were seen distributing safety flyers in various languages to pedestrians at busy intersections to help raise awareness and promote safe behaviors on the road.
Multiple tickets were issued for a variety of safety infractions, including 6 tickets that were issued for stop sign violations, 1 ticket for failure to yield right of way, 1 jaywalking citation issued to a pedestrian walking into path of car, 1 ticket for disobeying a traffic control device, 1 ticket for using a cell phone while driving, 1 ticket for obstructing an intersection, 1 ticket for unlicensed operation, 2 tickets for driving across hazard markings, and 1 ticket for passing a red signal.
Local pedestrians and bicyclists are urged to follow all safety guidelines while on the road to minimize incidents and ensure that drivers and pedestrians alike are safe at all times.
