BDE: Rebbetzin Mattel Zaks u"h

YS Gold

We regret to inform you of the passing of Rebbetzin Mattel Zaks, the almanah of Rav Gershon Zaks, a grandson of the Chofetz Chofetz. She was 89 years of age, and she leaves behind a beautiful Torah family.

The Rebbetzin was born to her father Rav Chanoch Henich Mayer-Teitelbaum, who was later known as the Sasover Rebbe of Veretzky. Aside from being a prominent Rebbe, he was a boki niflah in Shas and Poskim, as evidenced by his voluminous seforim.

She married Rav Gershon Zaks, a grandson of the Chofetz Chaim, sometime in the 1960's, and came to Monsey to establish the Radiner Yeshiva sometime in the 1970's.

Her overriding quality for which she was known throughout the community was her open home to everyone. Everyone found an open door in the home.

In addition, her mesirus nefesh for the Torah of her husband was incredible. Her devotion to the talmidim of the yeshiva was likewise great.

She raised a family of talmidei chachomim and marbitzei Torah who remain a credit to her legacy. With her passing, we have a lost a true relic of old Monsey who flew the banner of Torah in the community from its infancy until her passing today.

The levaya will take place tomorrow afternoon at her home in Monsey.

Yehi zichra baruch.
