Rockland County Election Results Challenged

By Idy Perl
A lawsuit has been filed to challenge the results of Rockland County's 2024 elections.
A non-partisan group called Smart Legislation filed a lawsuit against the county's board of elections, claiming third-party Senate candidate Diane Sare received more votes than were initially reported. The suit outlines discrepancies from ballots submitted in Ramapo, which have votes for Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, the Democratic nominee, but not for former Vice President Kamala Harris, who is also a Democrat.
"If people's votes are not being counted accurately, that is a violation of their constitutional rights, and that is something that undermines our entire democratic process," Lulu Friesdat of Smart Legislation said. The group is calling for a public hand recount to ensure that all ballots are counted correctly.
The board of elections has responded that the claims are baseless and should be dismissed. In the meantime, the case is moving forward and is scheduled to be heard in New York Supreme Court in September.
