Assembly Member Aron Wieder Honors Fallen Heroes and Engages Community During Memorial Day Weekend in the 97th District

Over the Memorial Day weekend, Assembly Member Aron Wieder dedicated his time to honoring fallen heroes and connecting with constituents across New York’s 97th District, demonstrating his commitment to both remembrance and community engagement.

On Thursday afternoon, Wieder kicked off the weekend by visiting the Satmar Expo at Rockland Community College (RCC) in Ramapo. Touring hundreds of booths, he praised the event as a “true showcase of every facet of the economy, driving jobs across NYS and reflecting a strong, educated, and united community.” That evening, he visited the Satmar Rebbe in Kiryas Joel to receive a bracha. The Rebbe expressed gratitude for Wieder’s efforts on substantial equivalency, while Wieder thanked the Rebbe for his support in passing the Chinuch Bill, a significant legislative achievement for the community.

On Sunday, Wieder paid solemn tributes to fallen heroes. He began at the Walkway of Heroes in Tappan, NY, a poignant path lined with the names of those who served. Reflecting on their sacrifice, he noted, “Honored to walk among their legacy and reflect on the price of our freedom.” Later, he attended the Memorial Day ceremony at Loescher Veterans Cemetery on Brick Church Road in Spring Valley, offering a heartfelt tribute to the fallen and expressing gratitude for their sacrifice and service. His visits continued at Onderdonk Cemetery at RCC, where he participated in a moving Korean War Ceremony, honoring the legacy of those who served. Among his stops was the resting place of Alan Moskin, a WWII veteran who helped liberate Wieder’s grandmother from Gunskirchen concentration camp. Wieder paid tribute to Moskin’s courage, stating, “Honoring his courage and the lives he helped save. Never forgotten.”

Sunday afternoon saw Wieder at the Satmar institutions’ fundraising event at 236 Cherry Hill Lane in Monsey, where he provided an update on his work in Albany on the Chinuch Bill, reinforcing his dedication to education and community priorities. He then joined the Rockland Community Network (RCN) barbecue in Pomona, commending the organization’s remarkable contributions across Rockland County. During the event, he took time to listen to constituents’ concerns, fostering open dialogue with the community.

On Monday, Wieder continued his Memorial Day observances by attending Memorial Day ceremonies in Palisades, Piermont, and Sparkill in Orangetown, where he paid tribute to all who served. He concluded the weekend at the Memorial Day ceremony in the Village of Spring Valley, joining Rockland County Executive Ed Day, Mayor of Spring Valley Alan Simon, and the East Ramapo Marching Band in a moving tribute to honor the fallen, uniting community leaders and residents in a final act of remembrance.
