Clarkstown Police Department Arrest Purse Thief

After the theft of a pocketbook at a local supermarket on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Clarkstown police officers were able to obtain video footage of the thief after she used one of the stolen credit cards at a smoke shop in New City on the same day as the theft.
A warrant was subsequently issued for the suspect based on the video surveillance from the smoke shop.
On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, Clarktown officers observed the suspect in her vehicle in the parking lot of PCSB Bank at 76 North Main Street in New City. Officers noted a wallet on the rear passenger seat. Further examination revealed the wallet contained the July 24 victim’s driver’s license and several other cards bearing the original victim’s name.
The suspect, a 49-year-old resident of New City, was arrested and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, both felonies. Additionally, the suspect's vehicle was found to be occupying two parking spaces and was issued a parking ticket before being towed from the location.
The woman was subsequently arraigned in the Town of Clarkstown Justice Court and was released on her own recognizance.
