Senator Weber Announces Winners of Countywide Blood Drive Competition

by M.C. Millman
After launching the first-ever countywide blood drive competition, as reported by Rockland Daily here, New York State Senator Bill Weber announced the town winners of the competition, which brought in 111 units of blood - enough to help 333 patients.
Towns were able to win in one of two ways: by having the most donations or the most newly registered Red Cross blood donors.
The town with the most blood donated in Senator Weber's blood drive challenge was the Town of Clarkstown. The town winner with the most first-time donors was also Clarkstown.
The final score by town was:
- Clarkstown - 30 units of blood/18 first-time donors
- Orangetown - 27 units/16 first-time donors
- Stony Point -21 units/12 first-time donors.
- Ramapo - 18 units/11 first-time donors.
- Haverstraw - 15 units/7 first-time donors
"My office was proud to launch the first-ever Rockland countywide blood drive competition in collaboration with the American Red Cross," Senator Bill Weber shares exclusively with Rockland Daily. "The event was vital as blood continues to be a precious commodity, and building up the American Red Cross blood bank is even more critical in the summer. I appreciate every individual who stepped up to the plate to make a difference not only for their town but for the person whose life they might very well have saved through their altruistic actions. I look forward to hosting this competition for many years to come."
