New Pedestrian Walkway Near Gov Mario M. Cuomo Bridge Completed

By Idy Perl

The State Department of Transportation announced that the new pedestrian and bike lane near the Gov Mario M. Cuomo Bridge is now completed.

The $13.9 million multi-modal project began in spring of 2023 and includes several improvements on and near the bridge, including widening the entrance ramps,  installing a traffic signal on Route 9 at Paulding Avenue, resurfacing Route 9 from Route 119 to just south of Gracemere Lane, and relocating the village of Tarrytown’s water main onto the Route 9 vehicular bridge.

The new pedestrian bridge is 270-feet long and 16 feet wide, and gives pedestrians and cyclists the opportunity to easily go between Rockland and Westchester County. Lighting, guiderails and climb-deterrent fencing were also installed.

“This new shared use path along the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge will further enhance what is already an iconic Hudson Valley recreational attraction and provide new connections for thousands of annual visitors to safely enjoy the splendors of the region,” State Department of Transportation Commissioner Dominguez said . “This bridge project, which completes a vital multi-modal connection over the New York State Thruway, provides endless opportunities for users of the Route 9 corridor to bike and walk seamlessly between the path’s Westchester Landing and the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail.”
