Rockland Writes: Commuter Calls For GWB Solution
Dear Editor,
For those of us from Monsey who commute to the city on a daily basis, or even those that only travel in every once in a while, we all have to deal with the nightmare that is the George Washington Bridge.
Every day on my commute as I get closer to the end of the ramp, I wonder again why so many different highways and lanes merge together before the bridge using only 2 lanes. It causes heavy traffic and delays “due to volume” on a daily basis. You can see a record of it on the bridge’s twitter page, which is just a continuous list of traffic and delay alerts. The GWB traffic sometimes adds 45 minutes to an hour on my commute, and I know a lot of others who have the same issue.
I believe our city officials should be able to come with a solution to solve this problem. I don’t know much about building highways, but I know we should be able to restructure or expand the lanes before the bridge to combat this issue and make everyone’s travel smoother.
Thank you for giving us a platform to discuss these issues and hopefully get resolutions.
