Repair Café Provides Helpful Neighbors to Repair Household Items

By Sarah Morgenstern
Instead of throwing away household items to sit in landfills, why not learn how to repair them?
On June 12, the Rockland Legislature will provide residents with a free Repair Café, which will provide helpful neighbors who have “fix-it” expertise that can get electronics, toys, and small appliances working as if they were “good as new.”
Rockland’s Repair Café will take place on Sunday from 11 am to 2 pm at Ramapo’s Clover Stadium, which is located at 1 Palisades Credit Union Park Drive in Pomona.
The Repair Café will provide different stations at which residents can bring items, such as electronics, lamps, jewelry, small appliances, digital devices, and woodworking.
Repair Café asks that residents first clean their items before bringing them. In addition, residents are asked not bring any items that are: oversized, leaking, contain gasoline, or have strong negative smells.
“We’ll do our best to fix your items, but no guarantees,” tweeted Repair Café, which added that a sewing station would not be provided.
