Clarkstown Police Perform Simulated Crash For Nanuet Students

By Idy Perl
Earlier this week, the Clarkstown Police Department demonstrated a simulated DWI crash at the Nanuet School District Outdoor Education Center. The event was held to show students the consequences of driving while under the influence and to encourage safe driving practices.
Several local elected and law enforcement officials participated in the simulation, including Chief Wanamaker and officers from the Clarkstown Police Department, Town of Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann, Rockland County DA Tom Walsh, Nanuet Fire Engine Company, Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps, Clarkstown Town Justice Michael Bongiorno, and Nanuet High School Principal Mike Mahoney. Student actors from the Nanuet EMS Youth Corps played the parts of drivers and passengers in the simulation
The emergency responders performed a realistic vehicle extrication and provided medical attention to the "victims", mirroring what often occurs in real-life DWI incidents. The simulation was an important lesson to the students who watched, and the image of what can happen if they don't drive safely is sure to stay sharp in their minds.
