Monsey Fire District Holds Annual Inspection Dinner

by M.C. Millman

The Monsey Fire District held its annual dinner last night at the New York Country Club.

The theme of the evening was Effective Speed - a reflection on how when it comes to fighting fires it's not about just arriving quickly to the scene of the fire but it's about being there and doing things effectively as well.

The evening's honorees included Chief Hugh Jacobson, honored for his 25 years of service, earning him Lifetime Member status. Yoley Lebovits, a firefighter of 13 years, was honored for completing his term as Fire Commissioner.

Senator Weber, who spoke first, presented the two guests of honor with proclamations.

"When there is a fire, we all run out," the Senator shared in his remarks, "and these brave men and women run in!"

The honorees were also presented with certificates by both Assemblymen Brabenec and McGowan and certificates from the Rockland County Legislature presented by Legislator Tony Earl.

"I wanted to extend my appreciation to the dedicated volunteers," Congressman Lawler addressed attendees via the pre-recorded video, "for the important life-saving work you do in our community. One out of every two households in the 17th District has a first responder, a firefighter,  a veteran, or a law enforcement officer living in the household, and I am truly blessed to represent our community of heroes."

The event was attended by volunteer firefighters, emergency service personnel who work with the fire department year-round, including law enforcement. Multiple officials at the State level were also there, including Senator Bill Weber (District 38), Assemblyman Karl Brabenec, and Assemblyman John McGowan. District Attorney Tom Walsh, Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht, Sheriff Louis Falco, Rockland County Legislator Aron Wieder, and County Clerk Dana Silberman also attended.
