Widespread Microsoft Outage Disrupts Flights, Banks, Emergency Services, and Companies Globally

This morning, a widespread Microsoft outage caused significant disruptions across various sectors worldwide, including flights, banks, media outlets, and companies.
The technology company reported that it was gradually fixing an issue affecting access to Microsoft 365 apps and services.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that major airlines, including United, American, Delta, and Allegiant, had all been grounded due to the outage.
Governor Kathy Hochul addressed the situation: "I am closely monitoring impacts to critical infrastructure in New York State due to a worldwide software issue. Our top priority is to ensure 911 systems are fully operational. A fix for the underlying issues has been identified, and we are working with agencies on a resolution."
The NYS Chief Cyber Officer Colin Aherin said: The NYS Chief Cyber Officer Colin Aherin said: "We are aware of an issue affecting Windows computers running a third party security software tool that is impacting systems and services worldwide. It is not a security incident or cyberattack.
“We are working with our agencies, local governments, and the third party service provider to resolve any issues on impacted systems. Our priority is to ensure all 911 systems across New York are operational and able to address emergency response needs. The third party has identified a fix for the underlying issue and the New York State Office of Information Technology Services is actively working with other state agencies on a resolution. We do not yet have a timeline for full restoration.
“Governor Hochul is closely monitoring impacts to critical infrastructure, including finance and transportation. We recognize the impact this is having on services, not only across New York but also globally.”
The situation is being closely monitored as efforts to resolve the outage continue, with updates expected throughout the day.
