Thirteen Nyack Families Displaced Due To Building Fires

By Idy Perl

Thirteen families in the Village of Nyack have been displaced after two separate fires tore through residential buildings on Tuesday, June 3rd.

The first fire broke out on the sixth floor of a building at the West Shore Towers apartment complex at around 11am. The Rockland, Piermont, Central Nyack and Nyack Fire Departments all responded to the scene, in addition to the Orangetown Police, Rockland Paramedics, and Nyack Ambulance Corps. One family was displaced due to the fire.

Only an hour later, a second blaze broke out at the Nyack Plaza apartments just a few blocks away. Flames and heavy smoke were seen coming out of the roof of one of the buildings as crews from the Monsey, West Nyack, Central Nyack, Nyack, Tarrytown and Valley Cottage Fire Departments fought to get it under control. This devastating fire displaced a total of 12 families, and several firefighters were injured while fighting the blaze.

The Village of Nyack has provided the displaced families with hotel rooms for two days until they can make more permanent arrangements, and a GoFundMe has been launched to help the families with housing and essentials: https://gofund.me/2e68a156
