Seniors Lose $3.4B To Scams: Local Action Taken

By Y.M. Lowy

In 2023, Americans aged 60 and older lost $3.4 billion to scammers according to FBI data.

To combat this, local authorities, including Chief Assistant District Attorney Patrick Frawley, Senior Assistant District Attorney Joseph Santangelo, and Senior Assistant District Attorney Katherine McLaughlin, hosted a scam prevention event at the Esther Gitlow Towers in Suffern.

They educated seniors on a variety of scams and shared tips for protection, urging them to contact loved ones or law enforcement if targeted. The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office will continue to help seniors stay safe from fraud with prevention events in various neighborhoods.
