Rockland Responds: Director of Parks and Recreation Responds to Question About Harry Reiss Park

Hi,

As a resident with small children living near the Harry Reiss Park in Ramapo, I would like to say we are very grateful for the park space in such a busy area.

After seeing the beautiful new play areas at Viola Park and Sandy Brook Park, I would like to ask if there is any funding in the near future to upgrade the Harry Reiss Park, which is swarming with children all week long b'H.

If you actually take a site visit, you will see that the play equipment is very limited. We could definitely use an upgrade that would allow a larger number of children to have something to play on in order to fully make use of the space. As it stands now - there really isn't much at all.

Sincerely,

Monsey Neighbor

Hi,

When it comes to creating and designing parks, it is about space and location.  We have some smaller parks, like Harry Reiss, which is considered a pocket neighborhood park.  That typically means there are homes close by, and it is meant to be a more passive park and is typically small.  The parks at Viola and Sandy Brook are considered large public parks and offer areas to park. That space is much different, and we can create larger play areas.  We are looking at ways to enhance all our parks, including the smaller ones like Harry Reiss.

We hope to be able to make some changes as we work to design new areas for our residents in the future.

Sincerely,

Michelle Antosca
