Rockland County Ranks Fifteenth Nationwide for Utliizing U.S. Generated Wind Electricity

Rockland Daily Staff

Rockland County has ranked number fifteen of local governments nationwide by the Environmental Protection Agency for utilizing 100% U.S.-generated wind electricity.

Additionally, Rockland County Executive Ed Day announced the launch of Rockland's Sustainability Project in his 2023 State of the County address. The project has two dozen departments working together to generate a long-term plan to improve the County's rankings in the New York State Climate Smart Communities and Clean Energy Communities programs.

The more milestones achieved, the more grant funding Rockland County will be eligible for, ultimately opening the door for more green investments without impacting the costs for local taxpayers.

"I'm pleased to let everyone know we are also scheduled to purchase three properties under our Open Space Acquisition Program," Day wrote on Patch, "saving 26 acres from development. Why? Because we see the value in open space and outdoor activities... So, we're using some of our ARPA funding to ensure all our families can enjoy the outdoors and reap the health benefits it provides."

Part of the 26 acres purchased as open space was reported last week on Rockland Daily here - when the County purchased 11.83 acres of Davies Farm Property.

So far, Day's office has awarded $7 million in grants to municipalities and nonprofits for over two dozen projects for parks, playgrounds, and gardens across Rockland and is also looking into the feasibility of creating a walk and bike path that will go from Palisades to Stony Point.
