Rockland County Office of Fire & Emergency Services Reminds Residents To Clearly Display Address Number

By Idy Perl
The Rockland County Office of Fire & Emergency Services is reminding all residents to make sure that their address is clearly displayed on their property so first responders can find their home quickly in case of an emergency.
Displaying a clearly visible address number on all new and existing buildings is a law in NY State, as it is part of New York State's Residential Code and Property Management Code.
Residents should follow these guidelines when installing their address number on their home:
- Numbers should be placed on the house, away from any obstructions, and with proper lighting.
- The numbers should be a minimum of four inches high.
- If the building address can't be viewed from the street, a pole, monument, or other sign should be used instead.
- The address number should be maintained to ensure it stays visible.
