Record Revenue for NY Thruway: Over $1 Billion for the First Time Ever

By Rockland Daily Staff
For the first time in its 71-year history, the New York State Thruway has surpassed $1 billion in annual revenue, a major milestone that reflects recent strategic investments and upgrades across the system.
Officials credit the surge to a combination of factors, including the 2024 toll increases and the reopening of more than a dozen newly renovated rest stops. These rest areas, once dated and underutilized, now offer modern amenities and popular dining options, dramatically increasing their appeal to travelers.
The renovated stops brought in a staggering $136 million in sales this year alone. Leading the pack was the New Baltimore service area, which raked in $18.4 million thanks to big-name eateries like Shake Shack, Chick-fil-A, and Starbucks. Close behind was the Plattekill rest stop, bringing in $16.5 million.
This revenue milestone confirms what state officials had hoped for when they greenlit the massive overhaul of rest areas several years ago, travelers are staying longer, spending more, and viewing the Thruway not just as a road, but as a full-service travel corridor.
