Ramapo Police Department Introduces New Traffic Patrol Unit

By M. C. Millman
The Ramapo Police Department is introducing its newest unit dedicated to traffic patrol.
The new detail will begin its traffic-focused work this week within the Town of Ramapo. The new unit's aim will be to enhance traffic safety by focusing on reckless drivers and pedestrian safety, thereby addressing mounting traffic concerns throughout Rockland County. This includes enforcing commercial vehicle regulations such as the new Ramapo Taxi law reported by Rockland Daily here and deterring commercial vehicles from entering restricted areas such as those in Montebello. The new unit will also assist with community events such as Hachnusas Sifrei Torah, levayas, and yahrtzeits that require traffic management.
"On Friday," Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht shares with Rockland Daily, "I met with Chief Reilly and the officers of our newly created dedicated traffic patrol team. These officers were specially selected to focus on traffic enforcement to ensure our streets are safe for all drivers and pedestrians. They will also advance our goal of effective community policing by providing support for community events and interacting with our residents. I want to commend Chief Reilly and the Ramapo PD for always finding ways to enhance our Town's safety."
