Ramapo Installs Electronic Charging Stations in Eight County Locations

By M.C. Millman

In a new project funded through a partnership between the NY State Energy Research and Development Authority and the Town of Ramapo, eight Ramapo locations will soon boast public electronic vehicle charging stations.

"The Town is excited to offer sustainable EV charging to our residents as part of our Green Initiative," Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Spech shares exclusively with Rockland Daily. "Residents will be able to charge their cars at convenient locations across the Town at competitive rates. The state-funded installation allows us to collect income from the charging units while serving our residents."

Electric vehicle charging station locations include the Spook Rock Golf Course and Joseph T. St. Lawrence Center, where the stations are presently active. Eugene Levy Park's EV installation should be up and running shortly, according to the supervisor. Other EV charging stations are in the works for the Department of Public Works Highway Department, Manny Weldler Park, Spook Rock Pool, Ramapo Town Hall, and Saddle River, where the public pool was previously located.

The partnership comes at no cost to Ramapo and will allow the EV stations to remain fully operational for five years with no maintenance or other charges to the town.

The EV stations are presently charging consumers thirty cents per kilowatt, which is a fair market price that is subject to change with market fluctuations.
