Ramapo Implements CodeRED to Communicate Quickly with All Residents: in Case of Emergency
By Sarah Morgenstern
Ramapo’s Office of Emergency Preparedness and Safety has implemented CodeRED, a high-speed emergency mass notification service that will communicate with enrolled residents.
In the case of an emergencies, such as severe weather warnings, evacuation notices, criminal activity, and fires, CodeRED sends messages through telephone calls, text messages, emails, and posts to social media sites to inform residents to protect their lives and their property.
Public safety officials across the United States have credited CodeRED notifications for successfully locating missing children, apprehending wanted criminals, and communicating crucial information for evacuations.
“CodeRED’s robust notification system will provide Town officials with a reliable, easy-to-use interface to quickly deliver critical information to our citizens during emergencies,” said Town Supervisor Michael Specht. “We are eager to use this innovative technology to enhance our emergency preparedness plans.
Ramapo also may send out CodeRED alerts for non-emergency situations, such as major road closings, water service outages, information about garbage collection, and sanitation updates.
While Ramapo has an initial database of residential and business telephone numbers, all residents are encouraged to visit https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/BFFE410C5FBD to enroll their contact information: including cell phone numbers and email addresses.
Ramapo residents also can receive links to enroll in CodeRED by texting “RAMAPO” to 99411. No one should automatically assume he or she is in the emergency contact database, city officials said.
