Officials Respond Amid Israeli Attacks on Iran

By Y.M. Lowy
Israel launched an unprecedented attack on Iranian territory overnight, targeting senior military officials, nuclear scientists, and strategic facilities linked to Iran’s nuclear development.
In retaliation, Iran fired more than 100 drones toward Israel. Israeli airspace was swiftly shut down, and dozens of international flights were diverted. Many travelers, including several groups from New York, found themselves stranded in European cities such as Rome, with no clear return route before Shabbos.
Among those affected are the Gur Rebbe, who is currently on a visit to the United States, and Reb Moshe Hillel Hirsh, Rosh Yeshiva of Slabodka, both with no confirmed plans for returning to Eretz Yisroel due to the uncertain air travel situation.
Senator Bill Weber responded to the situation by posting on X. “Iran—the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism—has threatened to wipe Israel off the map. In response, Israel is carrying out preemptive strikes to defend itself. My prayers are with the Israeli people during this time of war.”
Congressman Mike Lawler also issued the following message on X. “When I met with Prime Minister Netanyahu just two weeks ago, his resolve was clear: Israel would not allow Iran to possess or use a nuclear weapon. He said in no uncertain terms: we fight or we die. It is hard for folks to fully understand the constant threats posed to Israel. I do. And it’s why I support their decision to defend their very existence and preemptively strike Iran’s nuclear facilities.”
