NJ Transit Rail Strike Halts West of Hudson Service

By Rockland Daily Staff
Commuters in Rockland and surrounding counties are facing major disruptions as NJ Transit rail workers launched a strike, shutting down service on the Port Jervis and Pascack Valley Lines. The strike has stranded thousands of daily riders, with no clear timeline yet for a resolution.
At Spring Valley Station, several NJ Transit workers were spotted standing along parked trains early Monday morning, a visible sign of the ongoing labor action that has brought rail operations to a standstill.
In response, the MTA has rolled out a series of alternate travel options to assist those affected:
Ferry Options Across the Hudson
Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry: This route connects commuters to Ossining Station on the Metro-North Hudson Line and will cross-honor Port Jervis and Pascack Valley Line tickets. Free parking is available at the Haverstraw ferry terminal.
Newburgh-Beacon Ferry (Shuttle Bus Replacement): While the ferry remains out of service, shuttle buses are running between Newburgh and Beacon Station on the Hudson Line. These shuttles will also cross-honor West of Hudson NJ Transit tickets, with free parking available at Newburgh.
Hudson Link Bus Service
Commuters are encouraged to consider the Hudson Link bus network, which connects Suffern, Spring Valley, and the Palisades Mall to Metro-North stations at Tarrytown and White Plains. NJ Transit rail tickets from the affected lines will be cross-honored on the Metro-North Hudson and Harlem Lines. Riders should be aware that a step-up fare may apply for Hudson Link buses, payable at kiosks or through the Hudson Link app or website.
As labor negotiations continue, officials urge commuters to monitor transit alerts, plan ahead, and leave extra time for travel. The MTA says it will continue working to accommodate displaced riders during the disruption.
