Major Enforcement Operation Yields Significant Arrest at George Washington Bridge

By Rockland Daily Staff
In a recent crackdown at the George Washington Bridge, the Port Authority Police Department, in collaboration with the MTA and NYPD, successfully executed an enforcement operation targeting ghost vehicles and persistent toll violators. This operation is part of a broader initiative by the MTA Bridges and Tunnels, NYPD, and regional law enforcement agencies to enhance safety and compliance on New York’s transportation networks.
During the operation on Friday, June 14, 2024, PAPD officers deployed a license plate reader system that flagged a vehicle with a stolen license plate. Upon investigation, it was revealed that both the license plate and the vehicle were stolen from Virginia, connected to an auto dealership fraud case. The vehicle operator, a 24-year-old male, had multiple extraditable warrants from Virginia for stolen motor vehicle offenses.
The George Washington Bridge operation was a part of a larger effort involving 21 joint enforcement operations this year, which have led to the seizure of 1,266 vehicles, 276 arrests, and the issuance of 9,917 summonses. The primary objective is to target individuals and vehicles with substantial unpaid tolls, unregistered vehicles, and other traffic violations.
