Flood Watches in Effect Until Midnight for Rockland County

Rockland Daily Staff

The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts severe storms with rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches and possibly localized amounts of 4 to 6 inches over a 24-hour, which could lead to severe flash flooding.

"...potential for a few isolated spots receiving 7+ inches," the NWS relayed in an early morning flood watch update that included Rockland County. "Localized significant flooding remains likely in areas where the heaviest rainfall occurs."

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected, with rainfall rates that could hit 1 to 2 inches per hour, leading to excessive runoff.

"Excessive runoff may result in flashier small streams, rivers, and creeks rising out of their banks," the NWS says,  "especially across areas that have been impacted by significant flooding over the last week."

Rockland County's flood watch is in effect until midnight tonight.
