Biden says He'll Run Again: Especially if Trump also Runs
President Joe Biden, who is 79, said he planned to run again in
2024, and what would make it even more likely: former president Donald Trump,
who is 75, also entering the race.
After an ABC reporter asked the president whether he planned to
run for reelection, Biden said, "Yes,” adding: "But look, I'm a great
respecter of fate,” speaking of the Greek idea that one is not in control of
one’s own destiny. “Fate has intervened in my life many times.”
“If I'm in the health I'm in now, I would run again."
"And if that means a rematch against Donald Trump?"
ABC reporter David Muir asked about the former president, who has many times
said that he will run again.
"You’re trying to tempt me now," said Biden, who at 78
last January, was the oldest president to ever be sworn in, when he took office
nearly a year ago. "Sure. Why would I not run against Donald Trump for the
nominee? That’ll increase the prospect of running."
Although Biden’s approval ratings were high earlier in the year,
recent polls show that Americans have had second thoughts about the president,
due to rising surges of inflation, crime, and COVID.
When Biden’s approval ratings starting to sink, White House
press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters last month that Biden planned to run
again. In addition, last year before the election, Biden had told Muir he
"absolutely" planned on being president for eight years, if elected.
