BDE: R’ Gavriel Kahana, z”l
Yitzy Fried
We regret to inform you of the passing of Reb Gavriel Mordechai Kahana, one of the distinguished Viznitzer chassidim and longtime Monsey resident. He was 82 years of age.
R’ Gavriel was bound with heart and soul to his great rebbeim of the Viznitzer dynasty, and a vareme chassidishe Yid who possessed great warmth to Torah and mitzvos.
He was the son of Reb Eliezer Kahana, a renowned Viznitzer chossid, and the grandson of the legendary R’ Mordechai (Kahana) Peltz, one of the lions in the chaburah of the Ahavas Yisroel of Viznitz.
As a bachur, he learned in the Viznitzer yeshiva under the Imrei Chaim in Bnei Brak, and moved to America a number of years after his wedding, establishing a warm chassidishe home in the Monsey community.
Many have benefitted from Reb Gavriel’s largesse, generosity, and kindheartedness throughout the years, and he was bound with heart and soul to the Rebbe, the Toras Mordechai of Viznitz-Monsey.
About a year-and-a-half ago, he lost his wife, and then suffered a series of illness in recent years.
Reb Gavriel was niftar on Shabbos Parashas Bamidbar, and the Levaya took place on this morning after which he was laid to rest on the Viznitzer Beis Hachaim in Monsey.
Yehi zichro baruch.
