Tense Town Hall Meeting As Residents Debate PUD Proposal

By Idy Perl
Last night a tense town hall meeting took place at the
Ramapo Town Hall to give residents the opportunity to share their perspective
on the proposed PUD, or Planned Unit Development law. A PUD zone gives developers
the flexibility to build a mixed-use development that includes housing, commercial
and recreational spaces on properties of more than 10 acres.
Critics are wary of large developments that can change the neighborhood and exacerbate the already heavy traffic in Ramapo, while others praise the plan that would provide affordable housing to many local families. Multiple residents stood up at the meeting to share their their concerns or support for the plan.
The final vote for the proposal, which was scheduled to take place last night, was postponed to next week.
