Around the World: People's Republic of China

China is the most populated country in the world with over 1.4 billion people, although a UN report said that India will take its place by 2027.

Slightly larger than the U.S., China is the world’s third-largest country on the map.

On a slightly negative side, China ranks as the number ONE country plagued with depressed people.

67% of all panda bears, the black and white cuties, reside in China.

In China, the parenting style is “Authoritarian.” Parents are cold and distant toward their children. They also believe in beating children for misbehavior.

Shanghai, a major city in China, is home to a Chopstick Museum. This museum is quite small, but it showcases 2,000 pairs of chopsticks, including chopsticks made from teeth! Lan Xiang, the owner of this museum, has traveled all over to create his extensive museum.

Over 30 million people in China live in caves.

The Chinese army has the biggest number of soldiers in the world (more than 2 million people). Just to compare — that’s the same as the population of Paris.

There are traffic lights and there are signs but they don’t mean a whole lot to motorists in China. The streets often seem chaotic and vehicles drive and park on the sidewalk, even honking at pedestrians to get out of their way. Actually, pedestrians don’t often have many rights when it comes to sharing the road. Cars and buses might run you down so always stay on guard and be aware of what is going on around you.

What to do when you are late for your meeting and you are stuck in a traffic jam? Call the bottleneck rescuers! It’s a service in which two guys come to you on a motorbike. One will drive you to your destination and the other will take the place in your car. Clever, huh?

Rice is the most popular food in China.
