Major Accident on NYS Thruway Leaves One Dead, One Seriously Injured

A serious accident occurred earlier today on the New York State Thruway northbound, just before Exit 14, forcing a complete shutdown of the roadway.

State Police, Nanuet Fire Department, and EMS responded to the scene, where multiple injuries were reported and one individual remained trapped in a vehicle as firefighters worked to extricate them.

According to authorities, the shoulder of the Thruway has since been opened, allowing traffic to pass slowly. One patient has been transported by Rockland Paramedics and Nanuet EMS to Westchester Hospital in serious condition. Tragically, a second patient was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Drivers are advised to expect heavy delays for the next several hours as State Police continue their investigation and the scene remains active. Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible.
