Today in History: Obama Care went into Effect; Gov Hochul Acknowledges its 12th Anniversary
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, went into effect on March 23, 2010. The act aimed to provide affordable health insurance coverage for all Americans. The ACA was also designed to protect consumers from insurance company tactics that might drive up patient costs or restrict care.
Obamacare is still the law of the land, however, there is no longer a penalty for those who chose not to have health insurance.
Today Gov Hochul recognized the 12th anniversary of the ACA and the gains it brought.
"In Congress, I fought tooth and nail against attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act because it was the right thing to do for millions of Americans," Governor Hochul said. "As Governor, I remain committed to making sure that every New Yorker can obtain quality, affordable health care."
