Seventh Annual Sukos Chol Hamoed Greater Adventures Learning Program
M.C. Millman
The bi-annual Greater Adventures program has reached its seventh year in uniting New Hempstead and Wesley Hills shuls, who participate in a beautiful display of limud and kavod hatorah which takes place every day of Chol Hamoed twice a year.
Learning will take place from 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. and Divrei Bracha from 10:45 a.m. - 10:55. Past programs have boasted the attendance of over 100 boys who have participated daily along with fathers and grandfathers.
“Picture the scene: It’s Chol Hamoed morning," Rabbi Dani Staum, the coordinator of the Greater Adventure Learning Program, tells Rockland Daily, "You woke up later than usual, enjoyed a nice davening with hallel, laining, and Mussaf, and then headed home for breakfast. When you arrive home from shul, your wife and younger children are still moseying their way toward the kitchen, not yet ready to head out for the day’s Chol Hamoed outing. [The usual discussion of ‘what should we do today?’ followed by shoulder shrugs hasn’t even begun yet…Instead of sitting around agitated and impatient, the Greater Adventures program provides the perfect alternative with 45 minutes of learning, followed by ten minutes of divrei beracha and chizuk from one of the esteemed Rabbonim of the community. The program then culminates with a massive raffle, featuring numerous serious prizes for all those who attend. This program has made a huge difference in the chol hamoed experience of hundreds of boys, their fathers, grandfathers, and chavursas, and we're looking forward to continuing in the seven-year tradition. "
The Greater Adventures program will be held in the bais medrash at Knesses Yisroel at 698 Union Road in New Hempstead. The program is open to men and boys of all ages. Daily raffles for impressive prizes will be awarded to attendees.
