Senator Bill Weber Calls On Hochul To Assist East Ramapo Financial Crisis
By Idy Perl
State Senator Bill Weber of the 38th Senate District is
calling on Governor Hochul to take action immediately regarding the funding
crisis of the East Ramapo Central School District.
In a proposed legislation, Weber requests a one-time payment
of $20 million in order to open the public schools for the upcoming school
session. Commissioner Rosa recently mandated a 4.38% tax hike for local
residents to cover the school district’s deficit, a move that Senator Weber
criticized, saying that many residents can’t afford the extra taxes.
Weber’s proposal will take care of the district’s financial
crisis without asking for more taxes from residents.
“The ball is in your court, Governor,” Senator Weber wrote
in his bill, “and I am hopeful to hear from you soon.”
