O&R to Resume Collection of Overdue Bills
By M. C. Millman
After a pause to allow for the development of the New York Electric and Gas Bill Relief Program, Orange and Rockland (O&R) resumed credit and collection activity as of Monday, June 27.
The relaunching of credit and collection activity is aimed at collecting outstanding bills from customers who are not currently enrolled in the new utilities low-income energy bill payment assistance program.
The credit and collections activity may include the termination of service for past due arrears.
“Anyone in Rockland County who might be eligible should sign up for the Low Income State Assistance,” says Avi Goldstein Tomche Shabbos Director of Development. “The best way to avoid termination of service is to contact O&R at 1-877-434-4100 and make a payment arrangement which will keep the lights on until the State assistance comes through.”
Rockland County residents who would like to check their eligibility or who need assistance in the HEAP or O&R Energy Affordability application process can reach out to the Community Outreach Center at 845-356-9600.
Customers who are already enrolled in the Energy Affordability Program should not need to take any action as utility companies will apply the credits to the bills of eligible customers by August 1, 2022.
