NYS Police Annual "Speed Week" Enforcement Campaign In Effect

By Idy Perl
This week, from June 9 through June 15, the New York State Police's annual "Speed Week" enforcement campaign is in effect.
State Troopers will be patrolling highways and thruways, including the NY State Thruway that runs near Rockland County, and targeting drivers who violate speed laws.
Troopers will also be enforcing other traffic violations, including the "Move Over" law, which requires drivers to slow down and change lanes when approaching emergency vehicles that are stopped on the road in order to prevent collisions and protect the safety of emergency responders.
During last year's Speed Week campaign, State Troopers issued a total of 22,476 traffic tickets, including 11,175 for speeding and 592 for violations of the Move Over law.
