Greenwood Lake Wildfire Update; Rainstorm Expected Tonight As Drought Conditions Worsen

By Idy Perl
Things are slowly improving in regard to the raging local wildfires and drought conditions in New York.
On Monday Governor Hochul raised the drought warning in several NYC and Hudson Valley counties, including Rockland, to a drought watch, and urged residents to conserve water.
The good news is that the weather forecast is finally predicting some rain in the Lower Hudson Valley that is expected to start tonight. But of course it won't be just any old rain shower; a strong downpour that will last several days is expected to hit, bringing 1-2 inches of rain. Still, its not nearly enough to make up for the recent drought conditions, and around 8 inches of rain are needed to get back to normal levels.
As of this morning, tremendous progress has been made at the Jennings Creek wildfire, and it is 90% contained. Firefighters are still battling the last few hotspots, and New York Air National Guard helicopters are continuing to make water bucket drops.
