Federal Funds Approved for Hudson Valley Rail Crossing Safety

Two dangerous rail crossings in the Hudson Valley are set for major safety improvements thanks to new federal funding.
A crossing in New Castle, the site of frequent car accidents, will be redesigned. $2.6 million has been allocated for planning a bridge over the tracks at Roaring Brook Road. In Port Jervis, $160,000 will go toward improving pedestrian access and adding ADA-compliant ramps.
These projects are part of ongoing efforts to address high-risk crossings in the region, which include nine others flagged by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for future upgrades.
Local leaders hope these improvements will make travel safer for drivers, pedestrians, and commuters in the area.
