Evergreen Holds Appreciation Dinner for Local Law Enforcement
by M.C. Millman
Evergreen Kosher Market held an appreciation dinner tonight for local law enforcement.
The dinner was held at Fireside Kosher on Route 59 in Monsey and was attended by local police force representatives, elected officials including Congressman Mike Lawler, and community leaders.
“This evening has been a long time
coming. For the last few years, police departments across the country have been
operating in challenging environments. However, here in Ramapo, we can’t imagine
what other people could possibly be thinking. We live in a bubble of harmony with
our law enforcement that is the envy of the country, as evidenced by the bumper
stickers we printed and distributed a few years ago proclaiming we support and
thank our local police.
“More recently, it has been a
keenly difficult time for the Jewish community worldwide. These challenging
times have highlighted to us the importance of standing with allies and
friends. It has been heartwarming to get the public support of the Town and law
enforcement that comforts us with knowing who our real friends are. We don’t
take for granted the sense of security we feel here, knowing that all of you
are carrying a burden for us 24/7.”
Brachfeld went on to describe the unique relationship Hatzoloh of Rockland shares with local police departments.
“We’re proud to be a close family that has, together, saved to countless lives,”
he said. “If you want to see Monsey, come to Evergreen. Evergreen is a
microcosm of Monsey. From Evergreen Downtown located in this building to the
new Evergreen Uptown on Route 202, the two Evergreen stores act as bookends
representing the beautiful range of cultures and sub-cultures within the great
County of Rockland.
The etymology of the name for our
nation, Jews, comes from Yehudim which means thanks. We have so much to be
thankful for. What better time than the week of Thanksgiving for us to
demonstrate how much each of you is sincerely appreciated? This evening
represents our effort to express it in the best way Evergreen knows how –
feeding you.”
"It's truly amazing," Chief Martin Reilly said in response as he addressed attendees during the dinner, "not every police agency feels the warmth and the support that we feel. And we know it and we recognize it and we truly appreciate it."
