Community Pays Tribute to Retiring Ramapo PD Officer

On Friday afternoon, community policing officer David Small retired from Ramapo Police Department after nearly twenty five years in the department. Many elected officials and police brass were on hand for the "walkout ceremony."
Officer Small began his more than 29-year law enforcement career with the NYPD in 1996. During his time with the NYPD, he served in Midtown South and as part of the NYPD Mounted Unit.
In 2003 he was hired by the Town of Ramapo Police Department. During his career he served in various roles & capacities including as an Adopt-a-Cop, Field Training Officer, Police Instructor, Bike Patrol Officer, CRASE Instructor, DARE Officer, and Community Policing Officer.
He was also an active member of our esteemed Ramapo Police Honor Guard. Throughout his career, Officer Small received numerous commendations and awards, including the American Legion Award for disarming a person with a knife.
Fellow officers described Officer Small as a personality that is always uplifting and refreshing. They said that his presence will be missed by fellow officers and the community he served.
