Chestnut Ridge Village Board Urges Rockland County to Build Sidewalks on County Roads

By Rockland Daily Staff

Residents of Chestnut Ridge are well aware of the need for safer pedestrian options along certain county roads within the village. Many major streets, such as Hungry Hollow Road, Saddle River Road, and South Pascack Road, lack sidewalks entirely or have deteriorating ones, forcing pedestrians to walk directly on these busy roads.

The Village Board of Trustees recently announced that a formal letter was sent to Rockland County, urging the county to fulfill its responsibility by allocating funds toward building and repairing sidewalks along these county-managed roads. The Board highlighted Rockland County’s $300 million surplus, advocating for a portion of this to be designated in the 2025 budget specifically for sidewalks in Chestnut Ridge.

While awaiting the county’s response, the Board assured residents that they will continue to advocate for these critical improvements, helping make Chestnut Ridge safer and more pedestrian-friendly for all its residents.
