Brush Fire Restoration Ongoing in Rockland After Weekend Fires
by M.C. Millman
Massive brush fires swept through Clarkstown, Haverstraw, and other parts of Rockland last Friday, evacuating hundreds and requiring the help of 36 fire departments and a helicopter, as reported by Rockland Daily.
While the flames are mostly under control, there are still hotspots in Haverstraw that firefighters are working to put out.
According to News 12, Clarkstown Town Supervisor George Hoehmann said town engineers would be in contact with the Department of Environmental Conservation to see what kind of cleanup will be required.
Route 9W northbound from the Route 304 intersection is still closed due to safety concerns and hazardous conditions.
"It will be closed well into Sunday," said Hoehmann regarding Route 9W. "There's debris on the hillside that has to come down. Power lines are being checked out."
