The Town Board of Ramapo has adopted a zoning amendment, giving the go-ahead for the proposal by a missionary group.

According to the Rockland County Business Journal, the organization has "scaled what could be their greatest hurdle in moving toward building a facility that will become home to a working, living, and worship facility for members of the religious order".

These plans have been in the works for a while, with The Town of Ramapo Town Board accepting a Final Environment Impact Statement over two years after the initial statement draft was presented to the public for the almost 250-acre property located at 155 Sterling Mine Road.

The project required rezoning the initial RSH Specialized Housing Residental to a new MU-3 Mixed-Use Zoning District and amendments to the Town of Ramapo Comprehensive Plan.

The rezoning has permitted the organization to build a ground-up facility for the missionary members. The proposed plan is to construct residential units for up to 1,240 staff, dining spaces, assembly spaces, a visitors center, a clinic, offices, maintenance and set production workshops, and more as reported earlier by Rockland Daily HERE.
