BDE: Shock in Aftermath of Passing of beloved Stamford Mashgiach
By: Yitzy Fried
Rockland Daily is shocked and deeply saddened to inform you of the sudden and untimely petirah of Rav Michoel Bender, zt”l, the longtime mashgiach of Yeshiva Beis Binyomin-Stamford.
He is remembered as a tzaddik who shaped thousands of talmidim in the ways of Torah and mussar through his sterling example, and was an untimely 72 years of age.
The niftar was born in Williamsburg to his parents, Rav Dovid and Basya Bender. Rav Dovid was a Menahel in yeshiva Torah Vodaath while the Rebbetzin—herself a talmidah of Sarah Schenierer—was a longtime mechaneches In Beis Yaakov.
He married the daughter of Rav Simcha Shustal, Rosh Yeshiva of Stamford, and eventually became part of the staff of the yeshiva.
His entire essence was Torah and tzidkus, and bearing exuded eidelkeit and refinement. He imbued the Stamford bachurim with ahavas haTorah and the ways of mussar.
He moved along with the yeshiva to Monsey in recent years, where he continued his avodas hakodesh.
This afternoon he was found unconscious, presumably from a heart attack, and returned his neahamah to its maker.
The Levaya will take place at the Stamford yeshiva in Monsey tomorrow, Wednesday.
Yehi Zichro baruch.
