Yitzy Fried
We regret to inform you of the petirah of Rav Charlop, zt”l, a brilliant talmid chochom and longtime rov in the Bronx, who spent his life in the beis medrash. He had moved to Monsey in recent years before his passing on Wednesday at the age of 93.
Rav Charlop hailed from Rabbinic royalty. His father was Rav Yechiel Michel Charlop, also a longtime Bronx rov, and his father was the famed Rav Yaakov Moshe Charlop of Yerushalayim.
He served for decades as the rov of Young Israel of Mosholu Parkway in the Bronx, until the shul closed its doors.
For over thirty-five years, Rav Charlop served as a Rosh Yeshiva in RIETS, where he shaped and molded thousands of talmidim. He was one of the masmichim, ordaining many talmidim of the yeshiva.
He was the editor of Torah journals, and published a number of seforim of his own Torah and of his fathers.
The levaya was held Wednesday at Yeshiva Rabbeinu Yitzchok Elchonon, and the aron was flown to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah.
Yehi zichro Baruch.
