BDE: Mrs. Devorah Chanah Phillipson, a”h, Legendary Ba’alas Chessed
By: Rockland Daily Staff
We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Phillpson, the wife and life’s-partner of the famed philanthropist and patron, Reb Binyomin Phillipson. She was fifty-fove years of age, and did not awake this morning—leaving her family, the community, and the countless people who found an open door in her home, in shock and grief.
The nifteres was born in Boro Park to her parents, ybl”ch, Mr. and Mrs. Menachem Mendel Gottlieb.
She married Reb Binyomin Phillipson, who followed in the footsteps of his own father, Reb Shloime, as an extremely generous philanthropist and patron of Torah causes throughout the world, and is an especially ardent supporter of the Tosher Mosdos.
Reb Shloime sadly left this world a bit over one year ago—and was a generous supporter of countless Torah and chessed institutions in America and in Eretz Yisroel.
His son, R’ Binyomin, inherited his generosity—and Mrs. Phillipson, a”h, was his partner in all of his work. She was a legend in the community. Her home was open to those in need of a meal and a warm place to be, and she welcomed many college students who got their first taste of Yiddishkeit in her home.
Her emunas chachomim was legendary—not making a move without the guidance of the Tosher Rebbe, zt”l, and ybl”ch, the current Rebbe, and made their way to Tosh every Yom Kippur.
Her passing in the prime of her life, in the midst of so much tzeddaka and chessed, comes as a great shock.
The levaya will take place at 12:00 this afternoon, at 22 Pleasant Ridge Road, Spring Valley, and she will be flown to Eretz Yisroel for Kevurah.
Yehi zichra baruch.
