Annual Burn Ban Goes Into Effect In Rockland County

By Idy Perl
New York's annual burn ban has gone into effect in Rockland County ahead of the statewide ban that will start later this month.
The current residential burn ban is in effect in Rockland, Nassau, Suffolk, Richmond, Kings, Queens, Bronx, NYC, Westchester, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess, and Ulster. On March 16, the ban will be in effect across New York State.
The ban prohibits the open burning of tree limbs or branches, but still allows small outdoor grills and campfires that are less than three feet in height and four feet in length.
The annual burn ban, which lasts from March-May, was started several years ago due to the increased risk of wildfires during this time of the year.
