TRIPS Celebrates 45th Birthday
by Rockland Daily Staff
Today marks the 45th year of service for Rockland County's TRIPS Paratransit bus service.
On January 16, 1978, the first bus dispatched that Monday morning delivered its very first passengers. TRIPS was the first public paratransit bus system in the region at the time.
TRIPS was formed through a consortium of local agencies that received a federal grant for $86,000 to purchase six mini-buses with hydraulic lifts, wheelchair placement locks, and two-way radios. This allowed Rockland County's senior citizens and disabled residents to use regular transit services.
TRIPS Service is for any Rockland resident with a disability or who is 60 years of age or older. It operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
