Town of Ramapo Property Taxes Increase for 2024
Rockland Daily Staff
2024 Ramapo property taxes are set to increase for twelve villages and unincorporated areas after the Town Board approved a $130.9 million budget.
Unlike other Rockland municipalities, Ramapo tax bills depend on whether a property is located in unincorporated town areas or one of its villages that receive town services, such as police, highway, and public works.
Ramapo's 2024 budget increase is under the 4.4% state-mandated cap. The approved budget increases spending by $6 million from the previous year and raises $91.7 million in property taxes to support government and other services and programs, with police spending accounting for 45% of the budget.
While residential and commercial development has increased the tax base, there has also been a 7& population growth over the past year, increasing demands for services in public safety and emergency medical services.
Additionally, the town is experiencing increased costs for electric and water utilities, fuel, and contracted services such as trash and recycling removal, among other cost increases.
