Fatal House Fire in Nyack Yesterday

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 4:50 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a house fire on 49 Laurel Road in Central Nyack.

Central Nyack Fire Department was at the scene along with  Central Nyack, Valley Cottage, West Nyack, Nyack, Piermont, and Blauvelt Fire Departments as well as the Clarkstown Police Department. As emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they observed that the fire had already engulfed the first floor of the single-family home. 

The responding firefighters conducted an interior search of the residence and found an unconscious individual in an upstairs bedroom. The 74-year-old was removed from the residence, and despite vigorous attempts made to resuscitate him, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
