Supervisor Specht Calls Meeting With Local Leaders to Address Street Light and Sidewalk Concerns for Cragmere Road Residents

by M.C. Millman
Residents of Cragmere Road contacted Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht in June regarding the dangerous lack of streetlights and sidewalks on the road.
As the issue was complicated by the fact that the street is partly Ramapo, Airmont and Suffern, the supervisor coordinated a meeting with residents of Cragmere Road in the Village of Suffern, Airmont, and Unincorporated Ramapo to address local concerns regarding the lack of sidewalks and streetlights.
"The residents of the Cragmere Road neighborhood approached me recently to request sidewalks," Supervisor Specht shares with Rockland Daily. "Knowing that parts of Cragmere are located in unincorporated Ramapo, parts in Village of Airmont, and parts in Village of Suffern, I reached out to Airmont Mayor Bubel and Suffern Mayor Curley to set up a meeting with the Town, both Villages and the residents. Both mayors as well as Airmont Deputy Mayor Moses, who also had spoken to the residents, quickly agreed to meet. I also asked our town engineer to solicit proposals for the survey of the area and sidewalk design so that the project could move forward once we decided which municipalities would be involved. Once the survey is done, we will hold a follow-up meeting to determine the best way to proceed. In addition, as the Town's Clark Park borders part of Cragmere, we will start installing a path there alongside the park. I want to thank all the elected officials who attended and are working together to benefit our residents."
The Town of Ramapo agreed to use its engineers to create conceptual plans for installing sidewalks and lighting on Cragmere between Clark Park and Yorkshire and a walking path alongside Clark Park.
Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht, Senator Bill Weber, Sean Glendening representative from Congressman Mike Lawler's office, and leaders from the Village of Airmont, including Mayor Nathan Bubel and his Deputy Mayor Shimon Moses, and Suffern Mayor Michael Curly were among those present to address the residents' concerns.
"I was happy to participate in a meeting that involved all levels of government, including a representative from Congressman Mike Lawler's office, the Town of Ramapo, Villages of Airmont, and Suffern. " Senator Bill Weber shares with Rockland Daily. "We are all working together to make the Cragmere and Campbell area safer for pedestrians and motorists alike."
